Why is removal insurance important?
By taking out removal insurance you can cover yourself against losses greater than the limits set out in the standard liability terms and conditions provided for by your contract with the removal company of your choice. Moreover you will then be insured for risks where you have no rights of recourse against the removal contractor. If you have insurance you will not have to prove negligence, only that the cause of loss or damage to your goods is not excluded by the policy.
Of course your goods are valuable to you and therefore it is important that you ensure yourself of proper financial protection and in doing so of peace of mind. The Financial Services Authority
In January of 2005 the selling of insurance in the removals industry by removers acting as brokers became regulated and has since been under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority. So check with your moving company to find out if they are registered with The Financial Services Authority under ref. 311689. If so, they are thereby authorised to sell insurance.
